First Drive: 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is a smooth Spanish Fly(er)

Convertibles have long been something of an acquired taste. Devotees steadfastly defend the unique sensation of elemental motoring that can only come when plugged in to one's surrounding breezes, noises and smells. Conversely, detractors have traditionally lambasted droptops for their lackluster foul weather performance, added weight, vulnerability, and creaky, ill-handling platforms. And while the naysayers may have had a point in the era of tonneau-covered British roadster pilots with their tepid heaters, dubious structural rigidity and leaky, masochistic roof mechanisms, modern topless numbers like this 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet give lie to the idea that convertibles make lousy year-round companions.

Mercedes-Benz has long since memorized the four-seat convertible script. Hell, they probably wrote the damned thing. Benz has built dozens of different ones over the years, so it stands to reason that company engineers have approached their new E-Cabrio with a pretty reliable checklist of attributes. Primary among their concerns? A luxurious and well-sheltered interior. To that end, not only has Stuttgart mated an inch-thick canvas top with startlingly good sealing capabilities to a suitably robust chassis, it has kitted out its latest baby with all manner of draft-dodging technologies, including a new feature called Aircap. The system consists of a motorized airfoil that deploys from the windshield header in tandem with a power-actuated rear wind blocker that rises with the rear headrests to reduce in-cabin air turbulence. We've seen riffs on both elements before, but never with one-touch simultaneous deployment. In addition to Aircap technology, the E-Cab offers a much-improved version of its Airscarf in-seat neck vents, seat warmers and a trick HVAC system that automatically compensates for whatever position the top is in. Benz marketing types at the car's launch on the Spanish island of Majorca promised us that their new convertible is a four-seasons vehicle for four passengers, and after a couple of days in the saddle, we are ready to concede their point.

Firstly, in an age where many luxury marques are forsaking the cloth in favor of Rube Goldbergian retractable hardtops, we applaud Mercedes for not fully succumbing to the trend it actually kickstarted with the SL roadster back in 1990. Not only does E-Cab's 'acoustic' softtop seal out the weather and din of the outside world just fine, it looks much better while doing it. Four-place tin roofs like those on the Lexus ISC and BMW 3 Series tend to have awkwardly prominent panel seams and the spatial requirements of filing away their tops often has a nasty effect on body proportions (to say nothing of trunk space). The Benz suffers no such injustices, and it looks quite striking regardless of whether or not it's wearing a cap.Admittedly, some of us on staff still haven't warmed to the new E's rectilinear headlamps and H-E-double-hockey-stick LED running lamps, but the car's profile remains decidedly rakish, with ample visual thrust provided by the swollen rear fenders and angled character line. The rear taillamps are perhaps a bit generic in form, but the trunklid 'point' is a nice extension of the character line on the hood and the dual rear exhaust tips are well integrated into a blacked-out recess that curbs visual bulk.

Whether the top is up or down, the interior is a fine place to be. Truth be told, we didn't notice a great deal of improvement when the rather gawky looking Aircap winglet was deployed during open air motoring. Don't worry, you can't see it from the inside, but even so, there's not a drafty perch in the well-furnished house. Better still, gone are the days when a studied eye could find evidence of Benz beancounter cost-cutting in the cabin, and even the base model gets the aforementioned Aircap, along with dual-zone HVAC controls, leather and walnut trim.At our first opportunity, we absconded with a top-rung V8-powered E500 Cabriolet (to be badged E550 when it comes to the States in May) and went hunting for entertaining coastal winding roads – tarmac that was in abundant supply thanks to Majorca's tidy dimensions and thin off-season traffic. While we couldn't access some of the area's most celebrated roads (Xynthia, the very windstorm that nearly scuttled our man Harley's Jaguar XJ drive in Paris had caused rockslides and downed trees that made obstructed key passage points), very few of the Spanish island's surface roads we encountered ran straight for longer than the length of an olive grove, and some of the more mountainous stretches we traversed had the sort of blind zig-zags that have locals honking their horns to announce their presence before rounding a bend.

Other than on a few lengths of motorway, we never really had the chance to sample the ample reserves of our E-Cab's 5.5-liter V8, but it was pleasing to have that much power and torque (382 horses at 6,000 rpm and 391 pound-feet from 2,800-4,000 rpm) at our disposal all the same. Further, the seven-speed automatic didn't hunt around as some gearboxes with as many cogs are wont to do in hilly country – the computers simply picked the right gear and stuck with it, rendering our sport pack-equipped car's pull-tab paddleshifters all but unused. In addition to copious amounts of added support (reinforced A-pillars, "plug-in" B-pillars, floor buttresses, etc.), our German friends have sought to allay safety concerns with pop-up rollbars, seven airbags (including Benz's first headbags in a cabriolet), seatbelt pretensioners, as well as available preventative measures including 'Attention Assist' drowsiness detection, Distronic Plus active cruise control, and so on. As with the coupe, the chassis and its attachments are an artful hodgepodge of C-Class and E-Class bits, and impressively, company officials tell us that the resulting structure is as safe in a rollover as its tin-top counterpart.

Given that your average Majorcan meteorologist's calendar is filled with happy-faced sunshine icons for upwards of 300 days a year and there isn't much of a local trucking industry, we didn't exactly have the chance to assess the chassis' fortitude on bad roads, but we have every reason to be encouraged. Still, in the interest of further verifying Benz's 'four-seasons' claim, we're curious to see how the car's rear-drive power delivery and various electronic nannies (traction control, stability control, electronic brakeforce distribution, etc.) will cope with icy surfaces after swapping the 18-inch Pirelli P-Zero footwear for a set of snows. Perhaps we'll get the chance to find out next winter. In the meantime, Mercedes officials tell us that there are no plans to market a 4Matic all-wheel-drive variant of the Cabrio, ceding that niche of the market to the likes of Audi. While impressively comfortable, swift and – with V8 power – in possession of a nice top-down burble as backing vocals, the E-Cab still isn't the sort of machine that will cause the 'red mist' to grab your Inner Stig by his HANS device – it's a more relaxed affair than all that. No need to white knuckle the steering wheel, there's good weight and reasonable feel to the rack-and-pinion system, and all of the hidden extra scaffolding has done its thing to minimize cowl shake and unnecessary drama. Rather than try to do something undignified like catch that rogue in his M3, it's better to lower the top in a scant 20 seconds – at speeds up to 25 mph – and revel in the countryside, sample the audio system, or perhaps enjoy a conversation with three of your friends (the rearmost occupants ideally not being quite as leggy as your front-seat companion, just as God intended).

To be clear, it's not that the E-Cab isn't up to a good grab-by-the-scruff shagging, it's just that with its more relaxed demeanor, it doesn't encourage that sort of behavior, much less cry out for it. In fact, we suspect that buyers would do well to save a few bucks and simply go with the less costly – and weighty – V6-powered E350. We've got nothing against the V8, but we figure that the 3.5-liter's 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet should provide more than enough starch in this car's trousers. By lopping off a couple of cylinders, North American customers will lose some AMG body tweaks (the front fascia goes from a 'frown' to a 'smile,' etc.) as well as the cross-drilled rotors shrouded by 18-inch alloys, paddleshifters and the obligatory 'sport' button that firms up the suspension and tweaks the gearbox and throttle responses, but we're sure you can tough it out – especially at an estimated cost savings of around $8,000–$9,000. About that – Mercedes hasn't officially announced pricing yet, but we've been advised to expect something in the neighborhood of $58k for the E350 and $67k for the E550.If you're concerned about such things (or at least the appearance of such things), official EPA fuel economy figures haven't been released yet. For comparison's sake, the 2010 V6 coupe is rated at 17 miles per gallon in the city and 26 highway, and the V8 checks in at 15/23. Both droptops are heavier by a couple of hundred pounds due to their additional bracing, so we'd bet on around a single MPG drop in each cycle...

One more thing: A 290-horsepower direct-injected version of the 3.5-liter is expected next summer, something that ought to further dent the V8's attractiveness. For the moment, though, Mercedes says to expect 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds for the E550, with the E350 taking an additional 1.2 seconds to achieve the same milestone. Both cars are limited to a toupĂ©e-compromising 130 mph.Still searching for something a bit more hardcore from the House of the Three–Pointed Star? We'd suggest binning the rear seats and going with an SLK55 AMG, or perhaps waiting until the execs in Stuttgart slip a few E Cabrios onto a truck bound for Affalterbach. Either way, before you dismiss Benz's latest effort, understand that there's a certain type of stateliness and undeniable pleasure that's achievable only when motoring around in a relaxed luxury four-place convertible. And thanks to advances in technology found in cars like the E-Cabrio, that ineffable joy promises to be had in any season and without penalty.

Rolls Royce Ghost on display in India

Rolls-Royce Ghost would be displayed for the first time in India on Friday, November 20. Ghost is priced at 2.5 crore, a high end model Phantom costing Rs 4.4 crore was launched in the international market.

FAMED CARMAKER Rolls-Royce Motors recently launched Ghost, which would be displayed for the first time in India on Friday, November 20. The 2.5 crore car, which has been compared by the company to a sports jacket, would be put on display in the capital at the Grand Hotel, Vasant Kunj. Its launch was first announced three years ago, in the 2006 Paris Motor Show. The car was merely hinted to the media as RR4, which increased anticipation. Last year, the company released sketches of the car, which showed that it had some changes from the conventional Rolls Royce cars. Chief Designer Ian Cameron had remarked, “The RR4 is more informal... with a greater emphasis on driving. In design terms, this is expressed through its slightly smaller dimensions, yet with powerful, purposeful proportions.” The Ghost, subsequently, has a centre opening door configuration, with hand crafted interiors and grill. “We wanted something less formal and pretentious and more everyday,” says Colin Kelly, Director Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Asia Pacific. At the time when the company began thinking about the Ghost, no one knew that the economic meltdown was just around the corner. Even after the global recession took hold, Rolls Royce remained enthusiastic and hoped that the car would remain successful. The fact that the company's sales were still high, only ensured them that they would remain strong in the face of the economic crisis. However, the economic downturn eventually caught up with them, with sales dropping by as much as 34 per cent. It was still hopeful for a good launch. ”We first launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year. We saw the mood of the people was upbeat,” says Kelly. As compared to the Phantom, a high end model costing Rs 4.4 crores, that was launched simultaneously with the Ghost, the company expects that the sales of the latter would buoy those of the Phantom. “For every two Ghosts that we sell, we’ll sell one Phantom,” admits Kelly. In India, the company has focused on the chauffeur driven segment of the population and hopes to sell 50 cars here. The company historically has had a big market in the nation, as its cars were the preferred mode of transportation for the royal families in the pre Independence time. However, post independence, this market has lessened considerably. Last year, the British car maker sold only about 14 cars here. Apart from this, the fact that the company does not believe in routine marketing and advertising activities, may further hamper its chances as compared to other luxury car brands who have made a niche for themselves in the country. Kelly said, “We are a small company. We don’t have money for advertising; so we rely on the media to tell our compelling story,” says Kelly. To do its bit, Rolls Royce participates in all car shows. Its main promotion, however, is maintaining good relations with high end dealers, who in turn, direct wealthy customers to their showrooms.

Rolls-Royce's Spirit of Ecstasy

The 'Spirit of Ecstasy' is the name of the mascot on Rolls-Royce cars. It is in the form of a woman leaning forwards with her arms outstretched behind and fluttering cloths run from her arms to her back, which looks like wings. This Lady, often called "Emily", "Silver Lady" or "Flying Lady" has adorned the front of Rolls-Royce automobiles for the past century is modeled on a real woman; she is Eleanor Velasco Thornton. There is a story behind this famous Rolls-Royce mascot. Eleanor Velasco Thornton was the beloved of automotive pioneer John Walter Edward Scott-Montagu and the editor of the illustrated magazine The Car. Eleanor was Lord Montagu's secretary, and their love was to remain hidden, limited to their circle of friends, for more than a decade. The reason for the secrecy was Eleanor's impoverished social and economic status, which was an obstacle to their love. John Walter Montagu, succumbing to family pressures, married Lady Cecil Victoria Constance, but the secret love affair continued. Eleanor died on 30 December 1915 while she was accompanying Lord Montagu on his journey to India.Lord Montagu commissioned his friend Charles Robinson Sykes to sculpt a personal mascot for his Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost and Sykes chose Eleanor Thornton as his model. Sykes originally crafted a figurine of her in fluttering robes, pressing a finger against her lips, to symbolise the secrets of their love. The figurine was consequently christened 'The Whisper'.The very first Rolls-Royces did not feature radiator mascots; they simply carried the Rolls-Royce car logo. Claude Johnson, the then managing director of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, was given to see that all Rolls-Royce cars come with appropriate mascot. He turned to Charles Sykes to produce a mascot which would adorn all future Rolls-Royce cars and become generic to the marque, with the specifications that it should convey "the spirit of the Rolls-Royce, namely, speed with silence, absence of vibration, the mysterious harnessing of great energy and a beautiful living organism of superb grace..."Charles Sykes felt that a more feminine representation might be apt and chose The Whisper as the mascot of all Rolls-Royce cars. He decided to modify 'The Whisper' into a version similar to today's; 'The Spirit of Ecstasy'. He called this first model The 'Spirit of Speed'. Charles Sykes called it "A graceful little Goddess, the Spirit of Ecstasy, who has selected road travel as her supreme delight and alighted on the prow of a Rolls-Royce motor car to revel in the freshness of the air and the musical sound of her fluttering draperies." He presented the mascot to the company in February 1911.Sykes' signature appeared on the plinth and was either signed "Charles Sykes, February 1911" or "Feb 6, 1911" or "6.2.11". Even after Rolls-Royce took over the casting of the figures in 1948 each Spirit of Ecstasy continued to receive this inscription until 1951.Over the years "The Whisper" evolved to the current "Spirit of Ecstasy" also known as "Ellie in her Nightie," suggesting Eleanor's influence as Charles Robinson Sykes' muse.
Henry Royce, one of the two founders of Rolls-Royce, was ill during the commissioning of the 'Spirit of Speed'. He did not believe the figurine enhanced the cars, asserting that it impaired the driver's view and was rarely seen driving one of his company's vehicles adorned with the mascot. Hence, Royce made sure it was officially listed as an optional extra, but in practice it was fitted on almost all cars after that year, becoming a standard fitting in the early 1920s.As automobiles change with time, the Spirit of Ecstasy was no exception. It was silver plated from 1911 until 1914 when the mascot was made with nickel or chrome alloy to dissuade theft. The only departure from this came in Paris at the competition for the most apposite mascot of 1920, where a gold-plated version won first place. Gold-plated versions were subsequently available at additional cost.Although it seems unchanged, the mascot had eleven main variations in its life. Lowered height of coachwork forced subsequent reductions in the mascot size. Consequently, several alternations in the original design were made. Sykes was once again commissioned by Rolls-Royce in the 1930s to make a lower version of the mascot to suit the sports saloons. The 'Kneeling Lady' mascot was unveiled on 26 January, 1934 and was as undeniably a reflection of Eleanor as it was a symbol of the Rolls-Royce. It also bore on the plinth the inscription "C. Sykes, 26.1.34", the date when the first piece was finished. This version was, however, discontinued after the Silver Wraith, the Silver Dawn and Phantom IV models, in favour of a smaller version of the original standing mascot, and so it remains to date.In the United States the mascot is called 'The Flying Lady'. The Flying Lady was a modified version of The Spirit of Ecstasy figurine to make it bow a little farther in order to protect the bonnet.Today's Spirit of Ecstasy stands at 3 inches and, for safety, is mounted on a spring-loaded mechanism designed to retract instantly into the radiator shell if struck from any direction. There is a button within the car which can retract/extend the emblem when pressed. She can be made of highly polished stainless steel, sterling silver or 24-carat gold, the sterling silver and gold being optional extras. The only two Rolls-Royces this mascot does not appear on currently is the first Phantom IV delivered to the then Princess Elizabeth in 1950 and Princess Margaret' 1954 Phantoms IV.The Spirit of Ecstasy is certainly the most attractive and probably the best known motor car mascot in the world.

Audi R4 production version rendered

At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Audi unveiled a new version of the e-Tron concept car, a preview version of the future R4 sports car and they received an overwhelming amount of feedback. To not build a vehicle that created that much of a stir would be a conceptual nightmare and everyone seems to know it except for Audi. To build it or not to build it has been on ongoing struggle the company has dealt with since the debut of the VW BlueSport roadster which was supposedly the original concept for the R4 production vehicle. Yes, it’s a very confusing back and forth of emotions. Needless to say, the Audi R4 needs to arrive and, inspired by that concept, this is a new rendering of the production version.
The R4 will be built on an entirely new platform previewed by the aforementioned Volkswagen BlueSport roadster concept. As previously reported, the R4 will use a smaller powerplant than the ones found in the Audi TT. This means that we will see a range of 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI, and 2.0TDI engines. The engine from the newly launched Audi TT RS might also be used in a powerful high-performance version of the R4.
The Audi R4 will be offered in both coupe and roadster versions. We should expect the official debut in the next two or three years.

Jaguar supercar put on hold

Recently Jaguar announced plans to bring the F-type roadster out for the world to see, but apparently this decision has affected the arrival of the long rumored mid-engined supercar.
We have to remind you that the supercar had been confirmed at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show by company boss Mike O’Driscoll and spy shots have suggested that it was built as a competitor for the Audi R8. It was based on an all-new aluminum chassis and was supposed to use the same 5.0-liter supercharged V8 as the XFR. The target with the next supercar was a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds and a top speed of 225.
However, it seems that Jaguar decided to put it on hold and make room for the F-Type roadster. This actually makes sense because the F-type has been rumored for so long that it seems appropriate to unveil it to the world first. The economical situation also provides for the F-type roadster to better in sales than a supercar.

BMW Gran Coupe into production in the 2nd quarter of 2012

After BMW unveiled the Gran Coupe Concept at the Beijing Auto Show, the rumors about a production version immediately began. Today those rumors were confirmed: the BMW Gran Coupe concept will go into production in the second quarter of 2012 as a 6-Series model. The production version will compete with models like the Maserati Quattroporte, the Audi A7 and the Porsche Panamera.
The Gran Coupe will be built on the same platform as the current 5-series, 7-series, and 5-Series GT which should make for an easy production. The Gran Coupe will also be powered by the same six- and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel engines as those models.
The Concept Gran Coupe features a long wheelbase, a vaulted bonnet with forward-pointing lines, a set-back greenhouse, a flat silhouette and a coupe-style roof line. The front section is defined by the BMW kidney grille formally separated from other BMW icons such as the headlights and air inlets.
The BMW Gran Coupe should be a quick and easy production for BMW considering all of its borrowed parts from previous models. We should expect a production model fairly soon. Maybe at this year’s Paris Auto Show?

10. Porsche Carrera GT

Developed in 1999, Porsche Carrera GT, manufactured by Porsche of Germany, is priced at $440,000 dollars. It is well worth its price if we count the 5.7 litre V10 engine producing 612 DIN (605 SAE) horsepower (450 kW) and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62.5 mph) in 3.9 seconds, touching a maximum speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

The design is stunning too, Carrera GT has a 5 colors paint schemes that includes: black, guards red, fayence yellow, basalt black, GT silver and seal grey. The innovating thing about this car is the way that its engine is placed: with the use of a clutch made of a high-tech ceramic material, it`s allowing the engine to sit lower in the chassis than in any other super car. This feature is not only making the Carrera GT a road car with the looks of a race one, but also improves its aerodynamics and lowers its center of gravity.

Porche Carrera GT does have traction control even if, like some of its competitions, doesn`t use electronic driving aids such as dynamic stability control.

9. Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

The successor of the Diablo, the two seat, two doors Murcielago is a coupe introduced in 2002 by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. After 2 years, the open top Murcielago was introduced, a super car that has the same performance as the early version, but more aggressive rear flank, and of course at a higher price.

The buyer of a super car like Murcielago can enjoy the Lamborghini V12 engine, a six-speed manual or if he desires, a six-speed sequential automatic transmission. The aerodynamics of this car is improved not only by the rear spoiler that can be raised to an angle of 70 degrees, but also by the side mirrors that fold in when needed.

The LP640 model of Murcielago had a starting price of $350 000, higher than the original that could be found at a price tag of $273,000. But the differences between them are not just in the price, because the Murcielago LP640 can reach 60 mph in just 3.3 s, which is .5 sec faster that the original, telling us that the LP640 has a bigger power: 471 kW (640 bhp) at 8000 rpm compared with 433 kW (580 bhp) at 7500 rpm of the first Murcielago.

The Murcielago is a powerful super car that got its deserving name from the bull that survived 24 sword strokes in an 1879 fight at the arena of Cordoba and his life was spared by the matador giving him a rare honor.

8. Pagani Zonda F

First appeared at Geneva at a Auto Show in 2005, the all carbon fiber super car can reach 60 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds. With power of 443 kW/594 hp, and a top speed that passes 215 mph (346 km/h), Zonda F makes Pagani manufacturer to be at the level of another independent of famous super cars manufactures like Porsche, Lamborghini or Ferrari.

A car made by combining the sensibility of Juan Manuel Fangio, a F1 world champion 5 time in a row, about all that is related with technicality and the advance technology of Pagani, has a lot to offer, from the power to weight ratio of 384 W/kg, the six-speed manual transmission, the aerodynamic vents all around, not at least the carbon/ceramic brakes that allows the Zonda F to be on the top list of the cars with spectacular braking from 180 mph to 0 mph.

The V12 engine is a lot cooler because of the design of the car, larger in front, 7.3 liter Mercedes-Benz engine can reach now 620 bhp and gives almost 561 pound-feet of torque peaking at 4000 rpm. It has a length of 174.6 inch, a width of 80.9 inch and a height just about 44.9 inch.

Even if it's said to be a priceless super car, it will be on the market in 2008 at a base price of $667,321.

7. Jaguar XJ220 – 1992 Forgotten Supercar.

The Jaguar Xj220 is one of the forgotten super cars and it was produced in 1992 by Jaguar. This super car was the fastest car at that time. The vehicle features a 3.5 L V6 twin-turbo engine, which generates 542 horsepower at 7200 rpm. It has a 6-speed manual transmission, reaching 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph, an amazing speed for 1992. A total of 281 Jaguar XJ220 were produced and the original price was around $650,000. As of 2009, this car is worth around $150,000.

Many potential buyers put up a deposit of $80,000 USD to be on the waiting list to purchase this car. Since the production of this car was very limited (220 units per year and 350 max), many prospective buyers intend to purchase and sell this car right afterward to make an instant profit. However, due to many complications and a declined in the economy, many customers were unhappy and some even sued Jaguar.

5. McLaren F1

McLaren F1 is the most powerful supercar produced by McLaren between the years 1994-1998, from the 100 cars: 65 are street versions, 5 are LMs (which was build to honor victory at Le Mans in 1995) and 3 are Gts (the road versions of the 1997 F1 GTR racing car) and 28 F1 GTR made for the roads. The Chief Engineer Gordon Murroy`s concept refers to the use of expensive materials like: carbon, titanium, gold and for the first time, the use of carbon fiber monocoque chassis.

Power? Here is a good question, the car has the power output at 627 horsepower or has an imperial HP. The super car is powered by an 6 L V12 engine built by BMW, 627 HP at 7400 rmp, same as road car version.

The car has a top speed of 386 km/h or 240 mph (very good speed for 1994) and can reach a speed of 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, 200 km/h in 6.7 seconds and 300 km/h in 30 seconds. The McLaren F1 was the fastest car in the world until Bugatti Veyron was introduced.

When it was first introduced, it was priced at $970,000. This type of car is not produced anymore and it is very rare to find one of these on the market.

2. Bugatti Veyron

Not just a super car that carries on the name of racing driver Pierre Veyron, who, while racing for the original Bugatti car manufacturer, won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939, Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the second fastest car in the world and the most powerful, it can easily pass as a super hero`s car like Batman. It has the fastest acceleration speed, reaching 60 mph in 2.6 seconds.
Endowed with W16 engine-16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders fed by four turbochargers, a dual-clutch DSG computer-controlled manual transmission, the Veyron has a length is 4462 mm (175.8 in) a wide of 1998 mm (78.7 in) and hight of 1206 mm (47.5 in). Counting a sum of 10 radiators, for the engine cooling system, for transmission oil, a heat exchanger for the air to liquid intercoolers, for engine oil etc., the car has a power to weight ratio of 529 bhp/tonne.

If we talk about performance we are dazzled by this supercars power to reach 200 and 300 km/h (124 and 186 mph) in 7.3 and respectively 16.7 seconds, wining for herself the name of the quickest-accelerating production car in history. If we count the fact that the top speed of Bugatti Veyron is 253.2 miles per hour (407.5 km/h), a speed limited electronically to prevent tire damage (it can run even faster) we can understand why this spectacular car must consume 40.4 L/100 km (4.82 mpg) when it`s running at top speed and in city driving 24.1 L/100 km.

A model drove by superstars like Tom Cruise, couldn`t name itself cheap, rising the Bugatti Veyron at least of $1,700,000, a price that measures it`s quality. Many new designs has been released since 2006, the color might have changed, but the speed and power remain the same.
